| The current lineup
spotlights New Yorker, Jonathan David Bass, a young man who's definitely going places. He
opens with a flurry of scarves and a beaker of pink fluid from which he produces an aviary
of brilliantly colored doves, then in the wink of an eye causes the cage full of birds to
disappear beneath a canopy which he then lifts to reveal an eight-foot boa constrictor! Another unique feat has the audience shrieking as Jonathan thrusts a
giant trident of neon tubes |
right through his own torso. It's an incredible experience to sit a mere six-feet away from Jonathan
as he works his magic, creating a challenge that makes every trick all the more
mystifying.
We were particularly delighted to watch Bass clad, incidentally,
in skin-tight jeans and T-shirt with bare arms- cause a single bird to disappear into
nothingness. We're awed as he proceeds to crack an egg open to free the bird, and the
crowd breaks into a roar of amazement and applause. |
Jonathan closes the show with an
incredible demonstration of a famous Houdini escape routine, as we get to watch every
movement of his emergence from a straight-jacket, his feet shackled in stocks as a clock
on stage ticks off the seconds to what promises to be imminent electrocution. Jonathan David Bass exudes charisma, and exhibits an astounding talent
for a performer in his mid-20s. We're sure to be seeing more of this guy!
